Tornado confirmed in Otero County on Monday

OTERO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Around 5:20 p.m., the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado approximately 1.5 miles west of Fowler in Otero County. The tornado was reported by storm spotters.

According to weather spotters, the tornado initially developed as a landspout, forming from the ground upward before connecting with the parent thunderstorm above. National Weather Service personnel noted that the tornado was difficult to track visually because intense winds and blowing dust significantly reduced visibility.

Additional severe thunderstorms are expected through the overnight hours. The primary threats are strong winds, hail, and an isolated tornado.
