COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A woman riding an electric scooter suffered serious injuries after she was struck by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run crash early Tuesday morning, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Police said officers with the Gold Hill Division were dispatched around 1:50 a.m. to the intersection of East Platte Avenue and North Wahsatch Avenue for a reported hit-and-run crash.

Investigators said a woman riding an electric scooter southbound on Wahsatch Avenue was struck by a white Chevrolet Avalanche traveling eastbound on Platte Avenue.

While officers were responding, a Colorado State Patrol trooper arrived at the scene and began life-saving measures. The woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

According to police, the driver of the Chevrolet Avalanche fled the scene, continuing eastbound after the crash.

Officers with the Sand Creek Division say they later located the vehicle near East San Miguel Street and Murray Boulevard. Police contacted the driver, identified as Dathan Smith, who was detained and processed for DUI.

The crash remains under investigation.
