FBI assisting in search for Colorado Springs mother suspected of killing two of her children

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is now assisting the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) in its search for Kimberlee Singler, the Colorado Springs mother accused of killing her 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son.

Police say Singler was last seen on Dec. 23, but it's unclear where she is now.

CSPD said they could not immediately bring Kimberlee Singler into custody because of how the investigation began. When officers initially responded to Palomino Ranch Point, they responded to an alleged burglary and thus treated Singler as a victim.

When officers responded to the scene, they found a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl dead. Their mother, Kimberlee Singler, as well as her 11-year-old daughter, were found injured.

CSPD said on the scene, Singler talked and cooperated with officers, in addition to sitting down later for more than one interview with police.

However, throughout their investigation, police determined any claims of burglary were false, and while Singler was initially cooperative, at some point, she ran.

Colorado Springs Police say after responding to the scene on the 19th, they kept tabs on Singler, but no officer was assigned to watch her specifically or surveil her.

Singler is facing multiple charges including two counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, child abuse, and assault.

An attorney representing Kevin Wentz, the three children's father, responded to requests for comment from Mr. Wentz with the following statement:

“This afternoon a news release indicated that the police are seeking information concerning the whereabouts of Kimberlee Singler in connection with the murder of two of her children and attempted murder of her other child. Since the news release, Kevin Wentz and the Wentz family have received multiple phone calls and other attempts to obtain comment. Mr. Wentz and his family are currently in a tremendous amount of grief and shock. The family is respectfully requesting that you honor their request for privacy at this time so they may grieve and gather more information as it becomes available. Mr. Wentz and his family will comment on the investigation at a later date.”

In a statement regarding the situation between the children's parents, attorney Jennifer Darby also said, "There was a domestic relations case going in Larimer County. As part of that custody case, the court ordered Kimberlee to bring the kids to their father on December 16th. She did not show up, so on December 18th, Rex Harris filed an emergency motion with the court. The court ordered that she bring the children to Larimer County Court on December 20th, and the kids were killed on the 19th.”

A verified GoFundMe has been started for the Wentz Family. It can be found here: Wentz Family GoFundMe.
