U.S. Government relaunches free at-home COVID-19 tests

COLORADO, USA (KRDO) - The Biden administration has announced that it is providing $600 million in funding to produce new at-home COVID-19 test.

The administration restarted the website allowing Americans to again order up to four free tests per household.

Covid-19 cases are quickly rising in Colorado. To put it in perspective, our Covid-19 case count statewide is nearly triple what was in July.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment reported more than 24-hundred new cases last week. That's up more than 200 cases per week from the week before. Since the start of July 2023, cases have nearly tripled in the state.

El Paso County Public Health couldn’t give a specific reason for why cases are on the rise, but said the return to school is a typical time to see an up tick in respiratory illnesses.

In light of this, the U.S. Government is relaunching the program to provide four free Covid-19 home tests to Americans.

If you do order the new wave of test, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says they are intended to be used through the end of 2023 and they will include instructions on how to verify extended expiration dates.

The Department of Health and Human Services says orders can be placed at COVIDTests.gov starting Sept. 25. They add no-cost tests will be delivered for free by the United States Postal Service.
