Governor Jared Polis addresses affordable housing challenges in latest executive order

MGN

COLORADO, USA (KRDO)-- Colorado Governor Jared Polis says the state is at a crossroads when it comes to having enough housing that’s both available and affordable. He hopes to address this issue in his latest executive order.

Governor Jared Polis stated he wants to streamline and speed up the approval of housing projects and ensure that the state government is not an obstacle to construction. He also wants to save people money on housing.

According to Polis, a third of Coloradans spend more than 30% of their income on housing, forcing them to live farther away from work to find it.

Polis is calling for an increase in housing opportunities as well as protection for the environment and alignment with climate goals.

“We want to make sure that we reduce red tape, streamline the process, and internally focus on getting more housing out the door. There are things that we’re able to do to deliver more housing sooner,” stated Polis.

He also wants transportation to meet Colorado’s growing needs, as well as protect and increase economic growth and mobility.

Finally, Governor Jared Polis wants to establish the state processes that are as quick and efficient as possible and take the context and needs of different regions in the state into account.

Polis has received support from a variety of local leader and state agencies for his plan.
