‘Violent’ felon wanted by US Marshals Service injured in shooting with Colorado Springs Police

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo, (KRDO) - An investigation into a shooting involving the Colorado Springs Police Department is underway.

CSPD confirmed the shooting at 12:28 p.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of Aeroplaza Dr.

A Public Information Officer with CSPD said tactical units were called in to assist in detaining a violent, wanted felon with multiple felony warrants by the US Marshals Service and Colorado State Parole. The suspect, a man, was found sitting in a car.

When tactical enforcement unit officers tried taking him into custody, the man tried running away but then began running toward a business. That's when officers deployed a K9 Unit and then went after the suspect. At this point, CSPD said the suspect pulled out a handgun.

According to CSPD, at least one officer fired at least one shot at the suspect. The suspect has since been taken to a hospital.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation, per department policy.
