Police arrest accused burglar who barricaded himself inside a Colorado Springs home

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - One man is in custody after a brief standoff with police in a Colorado Springs neighborhood Tuesday morning.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Farragut Ave. for an in-progress burglary at 7:16 a.m. CSPD said it was reported a man was forcing entry into a home using a sledgehammer.

Once officers arrived, CSPD said the suspect barricaded himself in a different portion of the home and refused to surrender.

That triggered a shelter-in-place in the area. Residents were told to stay inside and avoid the area.

Eventually, the man surrendered and exit the home peacefully. The suspect, identified as Randy Holliday, was arrested and charged with burglary. Holliday was taken to a hospital for medical treatment unrelated to the stand-off.

The shelter-in-place was lifted just before 10 a.m.
