13-year-old Pueblo boy arrested as suspect in June homicide investigation

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - Pueblo Police have arrested a 13-year-old boy in connection to the murder of a 19-year-old.

On June 28, officers with the Pueblo Police Department responded to the 500 block of East Mesa Ave. to investigate a reported car on fire. More reports came in of gunshots being heard in the area before the car was on fire.

At the scene, police found a man inside the car. When he was pulled out, officers saw he had injuries that appeared to be gunshot wounds. Despite being taken to a hospital, PPD said the man later succumbed to his injuries and died.

The victim was identified as 19-year-old Lazarus Vigil.

Pueblo Police detectives later obtained a 1st Degree Murder warrant for an unnamed 13-year-old boy. The boy was arrested on July 27, and booked into the Pueblo Youth Center.

At this time, the suspect's name has not been released. It's unclear if he will be publicly identified.
