Colorado Attorney General hosts community conversations surrounding Kroger and Albertsons merger

Colorado Attorney General

COLORADO, USA (KRDO)-- The Colorado Department of Law is reviewing a proposed merger between the companies that own Safeway and King Soopers to ensure it is legal and fair to customers, workers, farmers, and suppliers.

On October 14, Kroger announced it agreed to purchase Albertsons in a $24.6 billion supermarket merger that would have not only nationwide impacts on consumers but for Colorado consumers as well.

Kroger operates 148 stores in Colorado under King Soopers and City Market banners, and Albertsons operates 105 stores under the Safeway and Albertsons banners—the companies are expected to finalize the merger sometime in early 2024 if approved by state and federal regulators.
