Mount Herman fire burning west of Monument now extinguished

MONUMENT, Colo. (KRDO)-- Firefighters with the Monument Fire Protection District and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) have now contained the Mount Herman Fire that was burning just a few miles Northeast of Monument.

The fire was within the Mount Herman mastication unit and aided suppression efforts helped to slow the growth of the fire, according to the Pike & San Isabel National Forests Cimarron & Comanche National Grasslands Fire Information page--the last update coming in at around 9 a.m.

The fire broke out at around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, when fire crews were called to the scene and it was burning at a half-acre.

No evacuations or closures were put in place and no structures were threatened as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is now under investigation.
