Titan Fire burning northwest of Trinidad prompts evacuations Wednesday

LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) - A wildfire was reported Wednesday evening west of Trinidad in Las Animas County.

According to the Trinidad Fire Department (TPD), the fire is burning near the unincorporated community of Boncarbo.

Multiple agencies are working the fire and evacuations were first put in place shortly after 6 p.m. for a five-mile radius from the 17500 block of County Road 51.0. Later the evacuation was extended to include the area around the junction of I-25 and County Road 40.2.

The latest update from the TPD said they were "evacuating about a 10-mile radius. Everyone on County Road 40.0 and 40.2 needs to evacuate. That includes Timber Canyon and Ponderosa Ridge. Everything west of County Road 51 can return home. This last update was given shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

This fire was originally called the Freedom Heights Fire, it is now being referred to as the Titan Fire.
