Pueblo steelworkers/EVRAZ reach new collective bargaining agreement

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Union workers at the EVRAZ steel mill in Pueblo have ratified a new collective bargaining agreement.

Members of USW Local 2102 (production and maintenance workers) and Local 3267 (clerical, technical, and plant protection workers) voted on October 20th, 2022 to accept the agreement.

According to the United Steelworkers (USW), the contract provides for an eighteen percent increase in base wages over the life of the deal, including seven percent in the first year. It also includes significant increases in pension benefits for future retirees. The USW said the contract also continues to provide healthcare coverage at no monthly cost to members, spouses, or their dependents while significantly decreasing out-of-pocket costs and expanding coverage in several areas not previously addressed. Finally, the deal also includes numerous language changes which will address quality of life and working conditions at the plant.

Charles Perko, President of Local 3267 had the following to say about the deal.

“The Steelworkers have secured a world-class contract for EVRAZ Pueblo’s union workers”, Perko said. “This is a package unlike anything we’ve seen in the history of the Locals. This contract will not only ensure that our members and their families can continue to enjoy a good life, but will once again set the gold standard for wages and benefits in Southern Colorado."

Eric Ludwig, President of Local 2012 said, "Membership approved a fair contract including retirement and wage increases with improvements to medical coverage we have not seen before.”

David Ferryman, SVP, EVRAZ North America Pueblo commented on the successful ratification vote saying, “this is a great day for our workers, our company, and for the Pueblo community. We are proud to provide competitive wages and benefits, and family-sustaining jobs to our dedicated team.”

Ferryman added, “I’m grateful that the negotiating teams from EVRAZ NA and USW worked together to forge a great agreement that earned the support of our workers. These men and women work hard every day to safely produce the highest quality steel products for our customers and that’s where our team’s focus will continue to be with this new collective bargaining agreement in hand.”

The new agreement will go into effect immediately, with wage increases retroactive to September 10th.
