EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A former Manitou Springs High School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student will have a new trial after a mistrial was ruled on Wednesday.

Matthew Barton, 54, was on trial for two sexual assault charges since Oct 10.

According to the Manitou Springs Police, the assaults happened in the 2009/2010 academic year. During his time at Manitou Springs High School, Barton was an English teacher and a girls' soccer coach.
