Ex-Colorado Springs contractor recorded destroying customer’s shower sentenced to jail time

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- After more than a year, a former Colorado Springs contractor was sentenced Thursday to spend 15 days in jail after being caught on camera taking a sledgehammer to a customer's bathroom.

Terry Gregory, 39, pleaded guilty to felony criminal mischief and causing damage greater than $1,000 back in July.

In September 2021, Amber Trucke spoke with KRDO about an incident she had with the contractors from Dream Home Remodels of Colorado, of which Gregory was a co-owner.

Trucke paid Dream Home Remodels of Colorado $3,330 of an owed $7,555 to rebuild her bathroom shower. Trucke said she wasn't pleased with the work the contractors had done and wanted to inspect it further before handing over the final payment of more than $4,000.

As a result, Gregory and fellow Dream Home Remodels co-owner and girlfriend Jordan Cazares went back to Trucke’s home and started hammering at the shower and bathroom tiles they had just finished working on. Trucke's roommate, who let the couple into the home without knowing their intentions, recorded the incident on her phone.

At Thursday’s sentencing hearing, Trucke had an opportunity to speak to the court before the judge's ruling. Trucke said she’ll never truly know if Gregory or Cazares will return to her home and attempt to cause further damage. The former customer says she didn’t believe they were remorseful.

In her statement to the judge, Trucke said she blames herself for putting her roommate, the woman who recorded the incident, in danger.

When Gregory’s defense responded by asking the judge for no jail time, his attorney said the bashing of Trucke's bathroom stems from Gregory being stressed out due to COVID’s pressure on his business.

Gregory then spoke to the court stating he was remorseful and embarrassed that he let stress get the better of him.

Gregory’s defense attorney acknowledged that Trucke has suffered, but proceeded to say they are “sorry she didn’t get her walk-in shower.”

On the other hand, Judge Monica Gomez said not only did Gregory take a sledgehammer to Trucke’s home, but her sense of security as well.

Due to this and Gregory’s previous guilty convictions of burglaries from 2010, the judge sentenced Gregory to 15 days in jail which is scheduled to begin on Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.

Gregory is also sentenced to 3 years of supervised probation and is required to attend moral recondition therapy.

Cazares pleaded guilty to criminal mischief as well, however, court records show she was not sentenced to jail during her hearing back in July.

13 Investigates attempted to speak with Gregory and Cazares following Thursday’s sentencing hearing, but the former contractor declined to answer any questions.

According to the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department, the business, Dream Home Remodels, is no longer active. It was listed under Cazares' name.
