Dog and woman shot after a fight in a Pueblo home

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) responded to a shooting on Sept. 24 in the 1200 block of Taylor Ln.

PPD officers found five people at the scene including a female victim who had one gunshot wound to the chest. She was transported to the hospital, according to PPD.

PPD says that the preliminary investigation showed there were several people drinking alcohol inside the residence when the shooting happened. A verbal argument ensued between two males which led to one male pulling out a handgun and shooting the family dog.

According to PPD, a physical fight then ensued over the handgun. The female was involved in the fight trying to get the gun away. During the struggle, the gun went off and the female was shot in the chest.

Officers on the scene were able to recover the handgun and multiple people were transported
to the police station to be interviewed about the incident.

PPD said that after further investigation, a 17-year-old male was arrested on charges of 1st Degree Assault and Illegal Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile. Additional charges may be added at a later date.

Animal control also responded to the scene and transported the dog to be treated for injuries.
