Annual Watermelon Festival in Monument brings fruity fun for the whole family

MONUMENT, Colo. (KRDO) -- The third annual watermelon festival put on by the Colorado Kids Ranch in Monument wrapped up Sunday after a three-day run.

The festival began in 2020 as a safe outdoors event for the whole family.

"We've done different things over the years and we want to try to do more things with water, and of course watermelon," Colorado Kids Ranch Owner JD Chapman said. "We're doing a watermelon eating contest, watermelon race. We're trying to find out what we can do that's fun with water before it gets cold."

It featured activities such as relay races, face painting, petting zoos, pony rides, a watermelon slide and of course watermelon eating contests. A big draw to this event was to bring home some fresh, Colorado grown watermelon.
