Mortgage rates are back on the rise

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Mortgage rates started dropping in July, but now they're inching higher for the second week in a row.

It comes as more economic indicators warn of a potential recession. According to Freddie Mac, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is now up to 5.54 percent.

That's lower than the year high of 5.81 percent last month but much higher than last year's 2.78 percent. Experts say economic fears are making the rates volatile.
