Colorado Springs Police: Man accused of assaulting officer during domestic disturbance

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man was taken into custody after he reportedly assaulted an officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

At 8:31 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the 3000 block of Illinois Ave. for a domestic disturbance. According to CSPD, an intoxicated man was at his apartment destroying items.

Police say officers managed to detain the man who continued to be "up and down" emotionally and physically.

According to police, the suspect became combative while detained and tried to return to his apartment where his wife was. While being restrained, he reportedly grabbed an officer's gun belt near his duty weapon.

CSPD says the suspect, identified as Matthew Siron, was then taken to the floor and controlled. While on the floor, Siron kicked an officer in the knee.

According to police, Siron was taken to a hospital and admitted for injuries and observation. The officer who was kicked went to the hospital and was released after being treated.
