SAGUACHE COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- After a multi-day search, the body of an overdue climber was found near Kit Carson Peak.

According to Custer County Search and Rescue, 41-year-old Luis Corkern reached the summit of Kit Carson Peak on Saturday, July 9. He planned to return through the Challenger Point summit but did not return to his vehicle.

Saguache County Search and Rescue began searching for Corkern along with multiple agencies.

Tuesday, Corkern's body was spotted by a Colorado Department of Fire Prevention and Control helicopter while rescue personnel searched nearby.

According to officials, Corkern apparently fell from a ridge down the Kirk Couloir. That lies between Kit Carson Peak and Challenger Point.

A technical rescue team from Custer County Search and Rescue was airlifted to the area and retrieved his body from the mountain.

On behalf of all the cooperating agencies, the Saguache County SAR expressed their condolences to the family and friends of Luis Corkern.
