Overnight construction on eastbound, westbound bridges; beginning Wednesday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Wednesday, crews will work overnight to replace the eastbound and westbound bridges on Platte Avenue over Sand Creek between Wooten Road and the Powers Boulevard Interchange. The construction is in effort to improve safety in the area.

According to the City of Colorado Springs, vehicle and bicycle traffic on Platte Avenue will be diverted to a permanent section of the new bridge over Sand Creek.

From 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22 to 5 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, traffic will be diverted on westbound Platte Avenue between Wooten Road and the Powers Boulevard.

All traffic on westbound Platte Avenue will be diverted onto the northbound ramp at the Powers Interchange, continuing North to Galley Road and West to Wooten Road.

All southbound traffic on Powers that choose to head westbound on Platte Avenue will divert and exit at Galley Road then West to Wooten Road.

That same night, there will be a single lane going Eastbound during construction.

Traffic impacts in the area:

  • Traffic control measures will be in place. Please use caution.
  • Construction activity is behind barrier along the median area of bridges.
  • Speeds reduced to 35 miles per hour in the work zone.
  • Bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to seek alternate routes during construction.
