Docs: Man told Colorado Springs Police he “did not mean to shoot” and kill 18-year-old woman
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- New court documents shed light on what led up to a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a teen in Colorado Springs.
On May 22, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to an apartment complex on the southeast side of the city on reports of a shooting.
At the scene, police found a woman inside an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, 18-year-old Malaya Leary, died at the apartment complex.
According to court documents, 19-year-old Eric Lockhart was playing with a gun. He told police the gun accidentally went off, killing Leary.
Lockhart was arrested and now faces manslaughter charges.
