Crews continue to work on 30th Street corridor project

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Road crews continue to work on the 30th Street corridor project. A new roundabout at Gateway Road and 30th Street is almost complete, according to the City of Colorado Springs.

In June, asphalt paving will take place on 30th Street following landscape in the center median.

Crews also plan to remove the main entrance sign for Garden of the Gods this week. A new sign will be installed at a new location along the Foothills Trail just North of Gateway Road. The sign will have similar size, shape, texture, and color like the existing sign.

As for the existing sign, it's made up of three-large sandstone slabs. If crews were to remove the existing sign, there is a risk of cracking and damage. Now, crews have determined it's best to replace the sign.

Phase two of the corridor project will require visitors to access the park and Visitor & Nature Center from the North. This phase includes crews to work on 30th Street between Gateway Road and Fontanero Street. The work on phase two will likely begin mid-June.
