MOSCA, Colo. (KRDO) -- Wednesday, officials with the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve said a lightning strike started a fire within the park.

Officials say the fire sparked along the entrance road, Highway 150, at 3 p.m. Park staff are working with neighboring fire agencies to battle the flames.

As of 4:28 p.m., inbound traffic and the visitor center are closed.

Originally, the officials said the park was possibly going to be evacuated. However, officials later said there were no other evacuations.

Officials said they will provide updates as they receive them. That information can be found here.
