Fire crews report grassfire near Colorado Springs Airport is knocked down
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Fire crews now report that a new grassfire that sparked Saturday afternoon near the Colorado Springs Airport is knocked down after burning around 5 acres.
Captain Mike Smaldino with the Colorado Springs Fire Department confirmed this is a separate fire from the Alturas Fire that sparked near the airport, prompting a shelter-in-place on Thursday.
The fire impacted access to the airport this afternoon, but the main entrance on Milton E Proby Parkway is back open.

If you see this fire, do not call 911, crews are already aware of the blaze and need to keep emergency lines clear for other calls.
The airport is aware of a fire near airport property. We are monitoring the situation. Please note some access roads to the airport may be closed.

Colorado Springs is under a Red Flag Warning until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, so fire officials are asking the community to be extra vigilant about fire safety.
