Colorado Springs Police: man faces DUI charges in fatal motorcycle crash
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo, (KRDO) -- A man faces multiple charges following a crash that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
Just after midnight on April 28, officers were dispatched to the area of Marksheffel Rd. and Drennan Rd. regarding a two-vehicle crash.
According to CSPD, the initial on-scene investigation found the motorcyclist was traveling north on Marksheffel Rd. and a Dodge Charger was traveling south on Marksheffel Rd. That's when the Charger crossed over the roadway center line and hit the motorcyclist head-on.
Police say the motorcyclist died at the scene.
Thursday, the El Paso County Coroner identified the victim as 22-year-old Adam Buck.
The driver of the Charger was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. While at the hospital, police say they determined the driver was possibly under the influence of unknown narcotics.
Friday, police identified the driver as Vincent Dewitt.
After an evaluation, CSPD says Dewitt was charged with Vehicular Homicide and Driving under the Influence. He was eventually booked into the El Paso County jail.
Police say both speed and DUI are being considered as factors involved in this investigation.
According to CSPD, this is the 12th fatal crash this year. At this time last year, there were 14 fatal traffic crashes in Colorado Springs.
