Family of missing Teller County woman fears for her safety
TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Nearly a year since a mother of six from Divide was first reported missing to authorities, the family is speaking out to 13 Investigates.
According to a post to the Teller County Sheriff's Office Facebook page Wednesday morning, Dava Charlene Leonard was last seen on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, in the Rainbow Valley Subdivision along S. Hwy 67 in Divide. TCSO tells 13 Investigates the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is working with their detectives on this case and asked the TCSO to post to their Facebook page.
Miccah Leonard, Dava's older sister, says she first notified the Teller County Sheriff's Office that her sister could be missing on March 6th, 2021. Since then, Miccah has been searching and praying for her sister to come home.
“Searching for anyone that would listen," Miccah told 13 Investigates. "You gave me hope that someone would hear me.”
Miccah is afraid that her concerns over her sister's whereabouts haven't been taken seriously.
"I can’t find Dava, and I can’t get any help,” Miccah said.
According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, Leonard was last seen at her boyfriend's residence on February 28, 2021, not in March. She does not have a cell phone or vehicle and there has been no activity on her bank account.
Miccah says she asked Teller County Deputies to conduct a welfare check at the boyfriend's home in Divide back in March of 2021.
“[The boyfriend] said she left there about a month ago. She hasn’t been there. That’s what he said,” Miccah said.
13 Investigates reached out to the Teller County Sheriff's Office multiple times with questions regarding the search for Dava since their post to Facebook. Teller County has not responded to our specific questions.
Miccah tells 13 Investigates she fears the worst, and her little sister is no longer alive.
“We literally pray that I am wrong," Miccah said. "But I am not.”
If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Dava Leonard you are asked to contact the Teller County Sheriff's Office as soon as possible.
