Colorado Immigration Rights Coalition sees big boost from Colorado Gives Day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Southern Colorado non-profits are seeing the benefits from 'Colorado Gives Day' and the 12th annual event raised $54.4 million for more than 3,000 participating Colorado non-profits.

One of those non-profits is The Colorado Immigration Rights Coalition, a statewide immigrant rights organization that also saw a breaking record number thanks to the online event.

For 'Colorado Gives Day, the CIRC had a goal of $ 70,000, but for the first time ever, they surpassed that number.

"We are super excited to say that we've exceeded it, we raised $76,000 and that number is just what we checked yesterday and we still have donations coming in," said Andrea Cota with the Colorado Immigration Rights Coalition.

Colorado is currently home to more than 100,000 undocumented immigrants, according to CIRC.

The non-profit's main job is to help pass immigrant rights and friendly bills, assist people with DACA renewals, citizenship applications, and create community events, which they look forward to doing more of this coming year.

"We really wish to expand those, that's an example of the events we wish to grow with this funding," added Cota.

According to Community First Foundation, the organization that created the giving event, Colorado Gives Day is one of the most successful days of giving in the U.S., with thousands of nonprofits participating.

"Nearly all of them got at least one donation on Colorado Gives Day and I think it just speaks to the platform and its' ability to connect donors to the issues that they care about and the non-profits that are working on those issues," added Kelly Dunkin, President, and CEO of Community First Foundation,

The coloradogives.Org giving site has raised more than $486 million since it went live in 2007.

This year there were also fewer donors but more transactions. Last year, the event saw about 80,000 donors, this year that number was 72,000.
