COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Colorado Springs man faces additional charges after allegedly shooting his father.
On May 6, 2021, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to the 3300 block of N. Arcadia St. on reports of a shooting. At the scene, officers found two men. One had a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
The victim was taken to a hospital. Officers arrested the other man, 26-year-old John Ellis Fitzpatrick, for Assault in the Second Degree and Prohibited Use of Weapons.
On July 8, the victim died in the hospital from his injuries. Through further investigation, police determined the victim was 55-year-old John William Fitzpatrick, the suspect's father.
On Wednesday, October 13, the autopsy report of the victim was received and his death was ruled a homicide. According to police, the Fourth Judicial District Attorney's Office will file additional criminal charges against the suspect.
This is the 29th homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2021. This time last year, police had investigated 32 homicides.
