Suspects try to steal marijuana plants from Pueblo backyard before shooting at residents

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO)-- Pueblo Police are investigating a shooting that happened early Thursday morning after the suspects attempted to steal marijuana plants from a resident's backyard.

It happened around 2 a.m., and when officers arrived, they spoke with two men who live in a home on Solar Drive. They told police that they were woken up by their dogs barking. When they looked out the window, they saw a man in their backyard who they say was trying to steal their marijuana plants.

The residents chased the male down the street, eventually cornering him near the intersection of Solar Drive and St. Clair Avenue.

The men told police at this point, the male summoned another person who appeared from around the corner. He approached the residents and started to yell that he was "strapped."

The man then pulled up his sweatshirt and took out a gun from his waistband, then began to fire at the residents.

The two residents and the suspects ran from the scene.

Though officers located 14 shell casings at the scene, they say the residents were not hit by the gunfire.

They describe the initial suspect as having curly blonde hair and wearing a green hooded sweatshirt with black pants. The second suspect was described as wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants.
