Pueblo police search for suspect after victim was run over during carjacking

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A woman is recovering after a man beat her and stole her car.

Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., Pueblo police officers responded to the National Pride Car Wash on Montebello Rd. on reports of a carjacking.

According to officers, a woman was vacuuming her vehicle at the car wash when a man approached her. He held a gun up to the woman and told her to give him her cell phone. Police say when the woman refused, the man demanded her car keys. Again, she refused and tried to get into her vehicle for protection.

Police say she wasn't able to lock her doors in time, and the man got into the driver's seat. The victim tried to fight off the man, but officers say he punched her in the face and dragged her out of the vehicle.

She fell headfirst onto the pavement from the driver's door. The man then sped away, running over her legs.

The victim suffered visible abrasions on her legs, however, her injuries were not life-threatening.

Police began searching for the suspect and the stolen vehicle. At 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, PPD said the vehicle was found parked at Val-U-Stay Inn & Suites.

However, the suspect has yet to be found.

PPD says the suspect was a Hispanic man, short, and he was wearing a dark shirt. The handgun was silver.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Flores at (719) 553-2936. To remain anonymous, contact Pueblo Crime Stoppers at (719)-542-7867.
