Air Force Academy welcomes Class of 2025 for I-Day

Air Force Academy Class of 2025 I-Day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The last Thursday in June is known around the Air Force Academy as I-Day, or In-Processing Day, and it's when the Class of 2025 gets its first taste of military life.

As of Thursday, a little over 1,100 appointees are now in basic training.

According to U.S. Air Force Academy, this class is made up 70.3 percent males, 29.7 percent females. About 36.4 percent of this class consists of minority appointees.

The next six weeks will be difficult, but if they make it through then they will officially earn the name of cadets in the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Thursday was a tough day for appointees. Loved ones were only allowed to drop off their kids at the Athletic Center, but were not allowed to join them during the check-in process. The check-in process included optometry, shoe check, and book distribution. This was then followed by medical and legal checks. After that, the appointees went to the cadet gym, where they took an Oath to the Air Force Academy and received a warm welcome from the Senior Leader.

Things got a little hectic after that for appointees.

After a bus ride, they arrived at Foot Prints Core Value Ramp, where they were asked to repeat seven basic responses: yes, sir; no, sir; no excuse, sir; sir, may I make a statement; sir, may I ask a question; sir, I do not understand; and sir, I do not know. They were asked to recite them often and learn them quickly.

Finally, they were able to drop off their luggage, pick up some equipment. Some had to get their haircut which required buzz cuts for some, and a trim for others.
