AVONDALE, Colo., (KRDO) - Pueblo County School District 70 is staying busy this summer as they kick off phase one of three of their $75 million bond construction projects. This is part of the $75 million bond measure approved by voters in November 2020.

Tuesday kicked off the new construction with a ceremonial groundbreaking at Avondale Elementary School, where the district plans to install a new heat, ventilation, and air conditioning system in phase one. Over the course of the three years, the district also plans to renovate the playground, install a new roof and turn the dirt parking lot into a paved one.

"District 70 is really unique, we are the largest geographical school district in the state and we are based in a lot of small communities, we have schools in Rye, Colorado City, Beulah, in Vineland, in Mesa, and here in Avondale and schools are really the centerpiece and cornerstone of these communities and so we want to take care of our schools because taking care of our schools is taking care of our communities," shared Todd Seip, public information officer for Pueblo County District 70.

D70 renovations also include new roofs installed for Pleasant View Middle School, Rye High School, Vineland Elementary School, and the greenhouse at Beulah School of Natural Sciences.

Other future upgrades happening at schools in D70 include electric, piping, and mechanical.

Phase two starts January 2022, followed by Phase three, which will begin summer 2023.
