Phil Long Ford of Motor City partners with Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region to vaccinate pets

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Phil Long Ford of Motor City partnered with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region to offer free to low-cost vaccinations to pet owners Friday in Colorado Springs.

It may seem like an unusual partnership, but Mark Barton, the General Manager of Phil Long Ford of Motor City, said it's a cause that's close to home for him, and his co-worker and pet, Cruz.

"When your number one salesman is a four-legged do, you have to support these local charities," said Barton. "Selling cars and trucks is fun, making sure Cruz's friends are vaccinated is a lot of fun."

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region said it's grateful for the partnership, too.

“We can’t do this alone, it takes a community coming together to care for pets and people," said Katie McDevitt, Donor Relations Officer for the Humane Society. "They absolutely love animals, we love animals, it seems like a natural partnership for us."

The Humane Society's mobile vaccination unit, the "Wellness Waggin" aims to bring equitable vaccinations to pet owners across the Pikes Peak Region.

Phil Long Ford is covering one vaccination per family on Friday, June 18th. Pet owners can add on additional vaccines for $10 each, or micro-chipping services for $15.

Officials with the Humane Society stress that pet health is just as important as the health of their owners.

“We really believe that pets and people are better together," said McDevitt, "The one way we can keep pets in their homes with families that love them and out of the shelter is to keep them healthy.”

Appointments for the Wellness Waggin' are completely booked for Friday, June 18th. Phil Long Ford will be hosting another pet vaccination clinic on July 16th. Check back to their website to book an appointment.
