High school basketball coach arrested for sexual assault on a child

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The head coach of a local high school girls basketball team has been arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child.

The Colorado Springs Police Department says 31-year-old George Pollard a coach at Doherty High School turned himself in on Sunday after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Friday. Police say Pollard assaulted a 16-year-old female. He is charged with Sexual Assault on a Child by one in a position of trust.

During the investigation, authorities learned Pollard was a coach at Doherty High School as well as a paraprofessional employed by Academy School District 20. Pollard was also identified as a volunteer coach for the Pluto Basketball Club, which has since suspended him from the club’s activities.

Academy School District 20 released a statement on Sunday regarding the arrest stating Pollard has been placed on administrative leave and that the 16-year-old victim was not a student in their district. The statement also said the alleged assault did not happen on campus.
