PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office found an illegal marijuana grow containing hundreds of plants in the backyard.

Tuesday, a deputy was sent to the 2700 block of Blue Spruce on standby while an individual picked up some items at the home. While at the residence, the deputy noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the home. The deputy asked one of the residents if there was marijuana growing on the property.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the resident admitted to growing marijuana and allowed the deputy to see the grow, which consisted of hundreds of young plants growing in pots and the ground.

Current Colorado law only allows for 12 marijuana plants per household. The man, who is from out-of-state, claimed to be unaware of the limit.

Narcotics detectives arrived and determined there were 339 immature plants worth an estimated street value of $5,000. Detectives seized 327. No arrests were made during the seize.

The case has now been referred to the 10th Judicial District Attorney's Office for possible filings of charges.
