Colorado Springs Police: 22 cattle dead after Fountain Blvd. crash

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- On Tuesday, a livestock trailer rolled onto its side on Fountain Blvd. Colorado Springs police say 22 cattle died due to that crash.

The trailer crashed Tuesday around 8:07 p.m. According to police,19 cattle died initially from the crash, three sustained severe injuries that CSPD had to humanely euthanize the animals on the scene.

CSPD worked with Parks and Rec, the Calhan Sale Barn, Colorado Springs Fire Department, the State of Colorado Brand Inspector, and CDOT throughout the night to transfer the remaining 69 cattle to a second livestock trailer.

The crash closed both lanes of Fountain Blvd. for roughly 12 hours. Police say the road reopened around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
