Vaccine site at Colorado State Fairgrounds closing on June 14
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The COVID-19 vaccine distribution site at the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo will be closing in a few weeks.
The Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment made the announcement Tuesday, saying the site will close for good on June 14. The site will still offer first and second doses until then, according to Public Health, but any second doses scheduled after June 14 will need to be administered by another provider.
The vaccine clinic at the State Fairgrounds was originally set up by the State of Colorado, but it then transitioned into a federally run pilot site.
Since opening, however, the clinic has seen dwindling turnout. In late April, KRDO reported that even on its busiest day, the clinic only reached about two-thirds of its capacity. Many days saw just several hundred patients visit for vaccine shots. A representative with FEMA said a likely reason for the low turnout at the State Fairgrounds clinic was the number of options for getting a vaccine in Pueblo County.
