300 pairs of shoes distributed to students

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Three-hundred pairs of shoes are being given to students at Odyssey Elementary in Colorado Springs.

On behalf of humanitarian aid organization Samaritans Feet, recipients will receive a “Hope Tote” drawstring book bag.

Inside each bag are a new pair of athletic shoes, socks, hygiene kit with a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, comb, alcohol wipe, mask, and a washcloth. It will also come with a “Hope Note” from Samaritan’s Feet supporters.

“Our founder, it changed his entire life getting a brand new pair of shoes when he was 8-years-old and it allowed him to live in Nigeria, play in the United States and start this entire ministry," added Kyle Alexander with Samaritan's Feet.

This is in part of the National Day of Service campaign by Samaritan’s Feet and it is funded through a multi-year MLK Day grant funded by AmeriCorps.
