Pueblo school districts to discuss vaccine distribution

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Gov. Jared Polis’ recent change to school vaccination plans may have just given schools the break they need after almost a year of shifting students in and out of the classroom.

Educational staff was originally slotted for Phase 2 of vaccinations in the spring, but they've been moved up to Phase 1B; along with grocery store employees and Coloradans ages 70 and up.

Phase 1B was initially for healthcare workers who have less contact with coronavirus patients, but Polis announced they were expanding the vaccine pool for that phase.

Officials with the Pueblo Department of Public Health said they’re still making sure all frontline healthcare workers in Phase 1A who want the vaccines have gotten it, but they’re ready to start vaccinating people in the 1B category, as well.

Pueblo School District 60 officials said they have no concrete plans for distribution of the vaccine, but they plan to discuss it during Tuesday's board meeting, along with Pueblo County School District 70.

The Colorado Department of Public Health said the expansion of Phase 1B has added an additional 1.9 million people to that round of vaccinations.
