Man arrested after firing multiple gunshots in downtown Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - A man was arrested Friday night for firing multiple shots in the downtown area of Colorado Springs.

Around 10:00 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department received multiple phone calls about a drunk man firing a gun in an alley near several bars in the downtown area.

According to police, when the officers arrived on the scene, several witnesses pointed out a dark-colored truck and told the officers that the shooter was still sitting in the driver's seat.

Police said they tried to get the suspect to exit the truck, but he ignored their commands. After several attempts, officers sprayed oleoresin capsicum (pepper spray) into the vehicle. The suspect got out of the truck and was quickly taken into custody.

Police found a loaded handgun in the suspect's waistband. He was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on numerous charges including prohibited use of a weapon and possession of weapons by a previous offender. According to police, nobody was struck by any of the rounds that were fired. The case is still under investigation.

It seems that many alcohol, drug, and gun related offenses are committed by previous offenders, which shows that the laws are not working to protect the rest of the population.

    1. The recidivism rate is pretty sorry. I don’t think it’s the laws, the laws have only become more relaxed. I think it’s simply easier to do police work and criminals have become easier to catch and release. Video evidence is more common for example. America has grossly lost its culture when you have porn at your fingertips, drugs and guns are easily accessible, divorce rate is high, the over prescribed psychotropic drugs, and the internet age. The age of social media where anyone with a whacky thought can easily meet other people with similar whacky thoughts and share them. I’m truly surprised more crazy shit doesn’t happen. Especially when we can read about any news in any state/country.

  2. We are given a description of the truck but not the shooter and we know what that means most of the time.

Colofornia Springs is not a safe place at night, too many criminals who are treated now like a protected class of people who just need to be understood.
