COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - A man was arrested Friday night for firing multiple shots in the downtown area of Colorado Springs.

Around 10:00 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department received multiple phone calls about a drunk man firing a gun in an alley near several bars in the downtown area.

According to police, when the officers arrived on the scene, several witnesses pointed out a dark-colored truck and told the officers that the shooter was still sitting in the driver's seat.

Police said they tried to get the suspect to exit the truck, but he ignored their commands. After several attempts, officers sprayed oleoresin capsicum (pepper spray) into the vehicle. The suspect got out of the truck and was quickly taken into custody.

Police found a loaded handgun in the suspect's waistband. He was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on numerous charges including prohibited use of a weapon and possession of weapons by a previous offender. According to police, nobody was struck by any of the rounds that were fired. The case is still under investigation.
