D49 reinstating virtual learning beginning Monday
PEYTON, Colo. (KRDO) -- School District 49 in Falcon announced Friday that students in Pre-K through 12th Grade will be transitioning back to E-learning for the rest of the semester, starting Monday.
District leaders say within the past week there have been 35 confirmed COVID-19 cases among students and staff, and that right now two-thirds of D49 schools are already on active precautionary quarantines.
“Surging infection cases from the community flow into our schools, creating quarantines that deplete our on-site staff, and in-person learning shuts down,” said Peter Hilts, D49 chief education officer. “Our schools are losing stability, and community conditions are beginning to compromise safety.”
Monday, November 9, will be a non-contact day for all classes, including special education. After Monday, D49 will continue offering some on-site programming for students that need in-person learning.
“Our teachers and other staff are more prepared than ever to deliver quality instruction during E49,” Hilts said. “We learned a lot last spring, and we continue learning and adapting as we serve almost a third of our students who opted for remote instruction.”
The districts' current grab-and-go school meals are also going to change. School officials are creating new locations and schedules to provide free school meals for students.
