COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Towns and cities across southern Colorado will pause Friday, and remember the thousands killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.

EL PASO COUNTY: firefighters from across Colorado will climb the Manitou Incline in full gear Friday morning to honor members of the New York City Fire Department who died while trying to rescue people trapped in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

PUEBLO: one of the largest traditions in southern Colorado is the annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony held along the Arkansas Riverwalk. The ceremony begins with a bell ringing at 7:58 a.m. at the World Trade Center steel memorial at the Center for American Values Plaza. The ceremony will also be streamed on the Center's Facebook page. Breakfast will be served for area first responders. The Center is asking people to observe social distancing and other COVID-19 guidelines.

COLORADO SPRINGS: the Mitchell High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps will hold its annual observance ceremony at 9 a.m. The event will honor the military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and civilians, who were killed in 2001. There will also be a special tribute to Kathryn Yancey LaBorie, a 1975 Mitchell graduate who was a flight attendant aboard United Airlines Flight 175 when the plane crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

COLORADO 9/11 STAIR CLIMB: will be held remotely in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants may complete the climb before December 31. Donations will also be accepted online, and shirts may also be purchased to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

SEPTEMBER 11 MEMORIAL VIRTUAL RUN WALK: will be held virtually in 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Participants may choose a location to run or walk 9.11 miles and submit their results virtually to earn a commemorative medal. Registration is still open online. The event benefits the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Tuesday's Children nonprofit.
