Pedestrian killed in crash in Colorado Springs, driver arrested

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating a crash that left a pedestrian dead.

The crash happened just after 7:30 p.m. Monday, at the intersection of W. Garden of the Gods Rd. and N. Chestnut St. When officers arrived they found the pedestrian seriously hurt. The victim was taken to the hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

The CSPD Major Crash Team took over the investigation. They determined that the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street at a crosswalk when they were struck by an SUV that was driven by 66-year-old Robert Bland.

Officers say Bland was impaired at the time of the crash. He was arrested and now faces charges of Vehicular Homicide. The victim's identity is being withheld until family is notified.

This is the 32nd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2020. At this time last year there were 32 fatalities.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call 719-444-7000.
