Guidelines prevent some from donating COVID-19 convalescent plasma

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Three Pueblo Police officers who beat COVID-19 got ready to lend their help to patients currently fighting the coronavirus, but they had to be turned away because of strict guidelines when it comes to donating plasma.

All three officers had fully recovered from COVID-19, and they wanted to donate their plasma containing COVID-19 antibodies on Monday. When it came time for the donation process, however, they had to be turned down.

The development brought to light the fact that not everyone can donate plasma, even if that plasma could go on to save lives.

We'll have the full story tonight on KRDO NewsChannel 13 at 6.

All three officers that contracted COVID-19 have quarantined, recovered, and are back at work.
