1 killed in Huerfano Co. crash, 2 seriously hurt

HUERFANO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) - Colorado State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on Highway 160 in Huerfano County.

The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. Monday. CSP says a Ford Expedition was traveling eastbound on Highway 160 near mile marker 282, when it crossed into the westbound lanes to pass other vehicles. That's when the Expedition collided head on with a Hyundai Veloster that was traveling westbound.

The Hyundai then collided with a guardrail. The driver, 41-year-old William Kirkpatrick of Albuquerque, was wearing his seatbelt but was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 37-year-old Carly Kirkpatrick, was wearing her seatbelt and sustained life-threatening injuries. She was flown to a hospital in Pueblo for treatment.

The driver of the Expedition has been identified as 67-year-old Donna Brummett of Westminster. She was wearing her seatbelt but sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown to a hospital in Pueblo for treatment.

At this time, alcohol or drugs are not considered to be factors in this crash. However, CSP would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the driving behaviors of the vehicles involved before the crash. Any witnesses are asked to contact the CSP Pueblo Regional Communications Center at 719-544-2424.
