Woman fatally shot in Trinidad, homicide investigation ongoing
TRINIDAD, Colo. (KRDO) -- A homicide investigation is underway in Trinidad after authorities say a woman was shot and killed Monday evening.
At approximately 9:42 p.m., police were dispatched to a reported shooting at a residence in the 300 block of Jackson Street. When officers arrived, they found a single camper and a female victim who had apparently been shot. Paramedics pronounced her dead on scene.
According to District Attorney Henry Solano, the woman died from a single gunshot wound.
The county coroner hasn't yet released the name of the victim, nor have investigators named any suspects or persons of interest.
"The Trinidad Police Department is in the process of interviewing witnesses and following up leads," said Trinidad police in a statement. "No suspect has been located at this time. Chief Glorioso believes this is a isolated incident and we are in the processes of attempting to identify the suspect who left the scene."
Trinidad police executed a search warrant at the property Tuesday morning with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. On the property is a single trailer, a shed and two damaged vehicles with various items strewn across the yard. The property sits directly across the street from the Trinidad Community Skate Park.
