LOOKING AHEAD: Using the I-25 Gap toll lane

I-25 near Greenland Rd.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -With the I-25 Gap construction project underway, many people are wondering how the toll lane will work.

The I-25 Gap construction project will add one lane in each direction on I-25 from Monument to just south of Castle Rock.

Anyone can pay to use the toll lane. You can either have an ExpressToll account or you will be tolled through your license plate.

You will be able to use the toll for free if:

-The vehicle has three or more people along with an ExpressToll account and Switchable HOV transponder.

-You're riding a motorcycle.

-You're riding on a bus.

Overhead signs will indicate toll prices.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, most of the gap construction will be completed in late 2021, with tolling set to begin in 2022.
