Shooting involving Colorado Springs police officer under investigation

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs police were searching for a wanted person near 1200 W. High Point Lane but it turned into a quick shootout with one officer and the suspect.

Police gave an update Monday afternoon saying that the BATTLE Task Force, which primarily focuses on auto thefts, responded to a stolen vehicle in the 1800 block of E. Kiowa Street. Officers then tracked it down to W. Uintah and Terrace Road, just blocks away from where the shooting occurred.

Police say when officers tried to stop the suspect, the suspect fired a gun, and a Fountain Police officer returned fire.

The suspect, who hasn't been identified yet, was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

CSPD did confirm that El Paso County's Deadly Force Investigation Team taking over the information gathering.

The Fountain police officer hasn't been identified yet, but they were put on administrative leave, per FPD policy.
