Vigil to be held for 15-year-old girl killed in crash on Hwy 50 in Pueblo West

PUEBLO WEST, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado State Patrol reported that the victim in a fatal crash on Highway 50 in Pueblo West was a 15-year-old girl.

The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Hwy 50 and Purcell Boulevard. State patrol says a Honda Civic going east on the highway tried to turn left onto Purcell Boulevard, but the car hit a Chevy Traverse that was going west.

Troopers say 72-year-old Victoria Krob was driving the Honda Civic and the 15-year-old was a passenger in the car. The teen was identified as Jordan Scheinert, who was a student in District 70.

Krob was injured in the crash, but Scheinert was ejected from the car and died at the scene. CSP says both were wearing seat belts.

The driver in the Traverse, 18-year-old Gracie Bishop, was injured in the crash.

CSP is still investigating, but troopers say alcohol and speed aren't factors in the crash.

On Thursday, Jordan's friends as well as complete strangers to the victim's family came out the intersection of Hwy 50 and Purcell Blvd. to place memorials.

“She had such a bright future; she was probably one of the smartest people I know,” Reagan Eichsteadt, Jordan's friend since 6th grade. "We were making plans for Friday night. We were going to go over and hang out because we haven't seen each other in weeks. When I heard what happened I thought it was a cruel joke. I didn’t think it was real."

Eichsteadt says she is organizing a vigil for Scheinert, scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Fairfax Park in Colorado Springs.
