On the Lookout: Two men steal tools, lawn mower, telescope from Widefield neighborhood in broad daylight

Widefield Lawn Thieves

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Widefield neighbors are on alert for a pair thieves who stole thousands of dollars worth of items.

The victims are a family in the process of moving.

"They violated us," Nicole Spengler said.

On Sunday morning, her surveillance camera caught two men scoping their home at the intersection of Drury Lane and Cielo Vista Street starting at 6:40 a.m.

The first man walks toward their driveway at 6:50 a.m., into their backyard, and is seen on camera coming back with a machete.

Minutes later, he's seen entering the passenger side door of a dark green Dodge Dually truck, with chrome accents and a top rack.

At 7:06, the thieves get bold. The sun has come up, but it doesn't stop the two men from grabbing shovels, tool boxes, and a personalized Jeep toy.

Spengler says, "The heartbreaking thing is my daughter has been getting rid of big toys, dollhouses and so many personal things to make sure that [the Jeep toy] would fit for our move."

For 15 minutes, the thieves take their time, carefully looking for anything of value. They make off with a telescope, a lawn mower, and the family's hard drives before walking it back to their truck.

"This isn't a matter of someone thinking that it was free things or that it was up against the curb," Spengler explains.

She believes the truck drove back around the house on Monday evening. When confronted, Spengler says the truck drove away erractically.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says they're investigating the case but haven't made any arrests yet.
